You are here: Fairness.com > Internships > Online Writing Internship II
Fairness.com LLC, publisher of the non-commercial Fairness.com website, offers service learning writing internships for Journalism students and others interested in practical writing experience and clips in an online environment.
Intern Duties
1. Research and write responses to user questions submitted to Fairness.com.
When a site user asks for help with a problem (usually a question very specific to his/her own situation) you'll research and write up a short, general overview of the issues raised and suggest information sources, professionals, and government and community resources that that person might turn to for assistance. Subject to editing and review, your generalized write-up will be the basis for a post to our site's most appropriate Message Board (as well as a response to the user who first asked the question).
2. News Desk work (half or slightly more of the total internship time).
Unusual Features of the Internships
- Your work is published on our site. Future employers, faculty advisors, friends, and family can see what you produced during your internship.
- Online work environment (geographic and time-of-day flexibility). The program is structured for email, web, and very occasional phone communications, so you can work from school or home at times convenient for you.
- There are no clerical, administrative, or other duties. All your time is spent on reading, writing, and editorially-relevant work.
- You retain ownership of your original works. You can use, revise, and expand them after the internship is over (we retain a non-exclusive license to publish, expand, and otherwise use the work you produce).
The internships are unpaid, but many interns arrange to receive academic and/or service learning credits for their work through their faculty advisor or Career Center. Fairness.com is happy to coordinate with such programs.
Qualifications
- Journalism coursework or experience preferred, but English Majors and those with extensive writing backgrounds are also considered.
- Internet access during internship work hours (and some phone access).
- Self-reliant work ethic; most of the work will be done independently.
