Date: January 23, 2002
Author: Caroline E. Mayer
QUOTE: The Federal Trade Commission today plans to propose new rules for reducing the annoyance of unwanted telephone solicitations as it begins to push for the establishment of a national "do-not-call" registry.

ABSTRACT: The Federal Trade Commission announced plans for a mandatory "do not call" list, a plan that carries significant fines for calling phones that have asked not be bothered. Industry groups, as might be expected, have a strong preference for the current self-administered system.
