The Memory Hole

Date: August 6, 2002
Author: Prof. Paul R. Krugman Ph.D.
QUOTE: ...Mr. Bush claims to have laid out the criteria for running a deficit when visiting Chicago during the 2000 campaign. But there's no evidence that he said anything of the sort...

ABSTRACT: Krugman accuses Bush personally of lying about whether he in fact admitted there could be reasons for running a deficit. He accuses the administration (Office of Management and Budget) of refusing to take responsibility for a misleading statement; instead of admitting and clarifying their comments, OBM is adopting the Orwellian tack of rewriting history as if the original erroneous statements never happened! note--- Krugman's column draws heavily on this Salon article: http://www.salon.com/politics/col/spinsanity/2002/08/01/daniels/index_np.html .
