Internet Ads Promising Cures or Protection
- Date: April 14, 2003
- QUOTE: Entrepreneurship may be the pulse of the American economy, but federal health officials warn that consumers should be wary of claims like these and unswayed by companies that seem to be playing on fear.
- ABSTRACT: Health officials say Internet ads claiming to cure SARS (Severe Accute Resporatory Syndrome) with protective suits, resporatory masks, disenfectants, and other products should be treated with skepticism. Not enough is known about the disease yet. According to experts, the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands frequently with soap or use an alcohol based cleanser and don't travel to areas where the disease is concentrated. --- Ginny Ross
