June 2005: "Dr. Kitzhaber is the Director of the Center. He is a former emergency physician, legislator and two-term Governor of the State of Oregon. He is the past President of the Oregon State Senate where he authored and implemented the groundbreaking Oregon Health Plan, now in its ninth year. His legislative career, which began in 1979, was marked by active leadership in the areas of public education, community development, environmental stewardship and a wide variety of health care issues including: long-term care, resource allocation and uncompensated care."
